The One-In-A-Million Committee to Save Our Children

YES, I choose to become one of the 1,000,000 signers of this petition to our elected officials and hereby sign-up as one of the ONE-IN-A-MILLION CONCERNED CITIZENS, one adult for each of the 1,000,000 dropouts every year! I agree with the following letter which will be sent to our elected officials.

Dear Local, State & National Elected Official,

We, the undersigned implore you to make the tragic dropout rate of 1,000,000 children every year one of your highest priorities. This unconscionable drain on every aspect of our society need not be. By cutting this needless waste almost every aspect of our society will result in a domino effect of improvement in the following ways:

1. Inmate populations will be decreased as 75% of our state and 59% of federal inmates are high school dropouts, and a 10% increase in high school graduation rates would save $10.4 billion in incarceration rates.
2. Unemployment rates will decrease as 60% of dropouts are unemployed.
3. Health care costs will decrease, as studies put the figure of an additional $40 billion dollars are spent on health care that could be saved if these dropouts has completed only one more year of school.
4. The $224 billion a year cost to taxpayers from adult illiteracy will decrease.
5. State and Federal taxes will improve as the 23 million dropouts between 18 and 67 years of age contribute $50 billion less in taxes every year than if they had graduated.
6. By cutting the dropout rate by only one third, our federal government would save over $410 billion every year in food stamps, housing assistance, and temporary family assistance.
